What Are Bed Bugs?
Bed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects that feed on the blood of people and animals while they sleep. Adults are flat and oval, about the size of an apple seed, which lets them hide in the smallest cracks and seams. After a blood meal they swell and darken, making them a little easier to spot.
These pests are excellent hitchhikers. They travel from place to place on luggage, used furniture, clothing, and bedding, which is why an infestation has nothing to do with how clean a home is. Bed bugs are found in houses, apartments, hotels, dorms, and offices across North Carolina and South Carolina.
A bed bug problem often starts quietly. A few bugs brought home from a trip can multiply into a large population over a couple of months, so catching the signs early makes treatment much easier.
